Self-Advocacy in Childbirth

How do you stand for yourself during pregnancy and birth?

How do you navigate a system that may not align with your desires?

How do you engage with your providers and support team to ensure you are seen and honored?

These are BIG questions when you are preparing for birth and absolutely ESSENTIAL if you want an Ecstatic Birth.

In this Conversation to Transform Birth with Women and Newborn Health Specialist, Tamara Hawkins we dive deep into empowerment and self-advocacy in pregnancy and birth.

As Tamara so beautifully articulates, our greatest power does not come from standing strong and fighting for what we want no matter who gets in our way… (though I personally do love that level of ferocity!) but from connecting to the humanity within ourselves and others.

Every Woman Can Do This!

Wow.. there is so much inspiration here for our expectant mothers!!

Fierce mom Natalia Rising shares her experiences birthing her 4 children, questioning and navigating the health care system as an immigrant to understand the options that optimized positive outcomes.

Each step of the way, she stood for herself, building confidence in her own body and desires, and experienced transcendent ecstatic and orgasmic pleasure along the way.

Her overarching message for all mothers-to-be:

If I can do this, so can you!

YOU matter!

An Ecstatic, Orgasmic, and DIVINE Birth!

“My recent birth with my second son Silver was the most ecstatic experience of my life bringing me closer to divine bliss than ever before.  I birthed on my own terms, in my garden, inspired and supported by the wild elements around me.

The birth was a devotional act, a deep bow and surrender to our great Mother, The Divine creatrix and in total reverence to all mothers past and future.  I somehow felt it my duty and honour to dedicate Silver’s birth as a reclamation of women’s body and wild soul, honouring the journey as a primal act of ancient feminine wisdom and divine connection.

Forging your UNIQUE path

There is no “right” way to birth, only the right way for YOU.

This is a foundational principle of Ecstatic Birth.

So much of our upbringing and internalized “training” is about following a “right” path that actually does not exist.

This pandemic has made abundantly clear that even “the powers that be” have no idea what the “right” course of action is.

This time impels us to strengthen our connection with our own internal wisdom, always asking the question “What feels right to me??”

Childbirth is the only other place I have felt this compulsory press towards body wisdom.

ReBirth… with Ecstasy!

If you didn’t have the birth you’d hoped for…

If you worry about how a “negative” birth experience has imprinted your child,

If you didn’t know about Ecstatic Birth when you were having kids, but now you do and feel any twinge of regret, you will want to watch this!

Clearing Trauma for Birth

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Birth is a BODY trip

In a culture that teaches us to live primarily in the mind, coming back to the body and letting it lead can feel alien, like speaking a foreign language.

Ecstasy lives in the body, but so does trauma.

Unresolved trauma is a major obstacle to a smooth and easy labor and delivery because it is held in the body, in our tissues, in the memory of our cells.

Rituals for healing, nourishment, and BIRTH

Our brains are whirring with thoughts of the future.. what is going to happen?
With the pandemic? With the election? With schools? With racism? With hospitals?
With birth… with_________???

Couldn’t we all use some nourishment and healing at this moment in time?

When so much is at stake it can feel counterproductive to take pause and drop in, but that is precisely the medicine of this time.

Rituals can offer us a potent portal as we navigate the waves of our life.

Rituals help us access our somatic and primal brains and with it our deeper truths and knowings.

The Hardest Part of Birth Prep…

Preparing for an Ecstatic Birth can be So Much FUN.

I mean.. .who doesn’t love expanding pleasure in her life and body?!? Right?

We’ve been trained to put our energy and attention on positive manifestation.

Creation from a place of love and excitement truly is potent work, IF- you’ve done the deep work of clearing out your fears.

In the almost 10 years I have been doing this work, I have never met a woman that didn’t have resistance to this critical piece of birth prep.

Everyone has fears going into birth.. that is 100% normal and natural- fear of pain, motherhood, c-section, tearing… yes.. and the one mega fear underlying everything:

Birth as a Shamanic Journey

Last night I was cuddling in bed with my daughters, my heart expanding and aching with my love for them.

Calling them into my life was one of the most transformative journeys I have ever taken and it continues to this day.

Ever notice how your pulsating LOVE for another presses you to grow beyond your own edges?

My desires for my children take me into realms I would never venture into for myself.
